Franki deMerle grew up in Huntsville, Alabama in the same timeframe as Deception Past's main character, Sand Strasberg, and her experiences provide the basis for Sand's story. The author's name is at the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Memorial in Washington, DC, as a founding member of the Build the Dream Foundation. She now lives in the Pacific Northwest, where she gardens and plays harp and classic guitar.
